Sausage and Sourdough Cheese Bread
This recipe has the components of a winning party snack. Made with Johnsonville® Maple Flavored Sausage Strips, melted Cheddar cheese, salty pistachio nuts and fruity apricot pieces in a buttery sour dough round loaf for a perfect morning tailgate or party appetizer.
package (12 ounces) JOHNSONVILLE® Maple Flavored Sausage Strips, cut 1/2-inch pieces
loaf (1-1/2 pounds) round sourdough bread
cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
cups butter, melted
cup pistachio nuts
cup chopped apricots
Maple syrup, to garnish
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line a baking sheet with foil.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook and stir sausage pieces until lightly browned; about 2 minutes. Set aside.
Cut a checkerboard pattern into bread round by cutting 5 or more slices about 1-inch apart; not cutting all the way through the loaf. Roates the bread a quarter turn; cut 5 more slices going the other way to finish chekerboard pattern. The slices will be attached at the bottom.
Place bread loaf onto prepared baking sheet. Carefully brush butter over all bread while pulling pieces apart.
Stuff 1-1/2 cups cheese into the spaces between bread squares. Sprinkle with nuts and apricots between the bread squares.
Sprinkle with 1/2 cup cheese.
Bake until cheese is melted and bubbling; about 15-20 minutes.
Drizzle with maple syrup.
