FAQs: Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Grillers Recall

Summary

At Johnsonville, we are committed to delivering the highest quality products and we take the safety and integrity of our products very seriously. One of our products, Johnsonville Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Grillers (frozen variety), is part of a voluntary recall because it may contain metal fragments. Below are additional questions and answers to address our consumers' concerns.

Q: How serious of a recall is this?

A: The Johnsonville Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Grillers (frozen variety) is involved in a product recall, due to potential metal fragments. Although there have been just a handful of incidents reported to us, no injuries have occurred and we believe the risk to be minimal, we take no chances when it comes to protecting our consumers’ health and safety.

Q: Are all Johnsonville Grillers affected by this recall?

A: No. Only the frozen patty variety in the orange carton, which is the Cheddar Cheese & Bacon griller. And only this product that features both the “Best Flavor By” date (122915) and the establishment number (EST425B). This recall does not affect the 4-count ¼ lb. fresh Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Grillers.

Q: Where has this product been distributed?

A: We have identified that this product was shipped to retail stores in 11 states: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin.

Q: Are the grocery stores notified?

A: Yes, Johnsonville has informed its retail customers in these 11 states about this single Griller product that is affected by the recall, and have asked them to remove this particular product if it is marked with both the “Best Flavor By” date of 122915 and establishment number of EST425B.

Q: How do I know if I’ve purchased this product being recalled?

A: If you have the Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Griller in the orange carton, check the “Best Flavor By” date (which is 122915) and establishment numbers (EST425B), which are both in the same location at the end of the carton. The affected product will have both these numbers. If your product has just the date of 122915 and a different establishment number, the product is safe to enjoy.

If you no longer have the carton and just the heat-sealed plastic bag containing the Grillers, you will see both these same numbers printed on the outside of the bag, but in a different format: 425B BFB122915.

Q: What do I do with the product if I have one or more cartons in my freezer?

A: If you have this affected product in hand, you have a couple of options:

1) You can return the affected product to the retailer you purchased it at for a full refund; or

2) Please contact Johnsonville’s Consumer Affairs team to arrange for Johnsonville to send you a self-addressed stamped envelope. We ask that you return the end piece off the side of the box that reads “Best Flavor By” date with the two sets of numbers. Johnsonville will then issue coupons (for any Johnsonville Griller variety or another Johnsonville product) for the full retail value or if you prefer, a check for the full retail value of $6.99. No receipt is necessary. Please contact Johnsonville: 1-888-556-2728 or complete a brief form in the “Contact Us” section of Johnsonville.com: http://www.johnsonville.com/contact.html

Q: What if I may have consumed this product involved in the recall?

A: Rest assured that if you have already consumed this specific product, and had no adverse reactions after consumption, you are not at risk.

Q: Then why is a recall being issued?

A: While we believe the risk to be minimal, we take no chances when it comes to protecting our consumers’ health and safety. However, because there’s the potential of this affected product being in the market, the voluntary recall was initiated.

Q: How do I get in touch with Johnsonville?

A: Please contact Johnsonville: 1-888-556-2728 or complete a brief form in the “Contact Us” section of Johnsonville.com: http://www.johnsonville.com/contact.html

Q: How do I know that any other Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Griller product I see on the shelves is OK to purchase and consume?

A: We’re working with all affected retailers to ensure the product featuring this “Best Flavor By” date and the establishment number is removed from the shelves. However, we encourage consumers who purchase the Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Griller (frozen variety) check the “Best Flavor By” date and establishment number on the carton to ensure that the purchase does not involve the affected product.
