Egg & Sausage Pastry Ingredients
- 1 pkg. puff pastry sheets
- 1 pkg. (12 oz.) Johnsonville® Original Breakfast Sausage Patties
- 1 1/2 cups (6 oz.) mushrooms, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 Tbsp. butter, divided
- 1 dozen eggs
- 3 Tbsp. cottage cheese
- 1 1/2 cups (6 oz.) sharp cheddar cheese, cubed
Egg & Sausage Pastry Directions
In a skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat for 3 minutes, chopping into small pieces. Drain and set aside. Roll out 2 sheets of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to the size of 12" x 16". Place one sheet onto a baking sheet. In a sauté pan, place one tablespoon butter, sliced mushrooms and onions and sprinkle with garlic powder, if desired. Salt and pepper to taste and cook until lightly browned. Add sausage and heat through. Place eggs and cottage cheese into a bowl and whisk lightly. Salt and pepper to taste. In another sauté pan, melt one tablespoon of butter and scramble the egg mixture. Spread mixture onto the bottom pastry sheet within 1" of all sides. Layer sausage, onion and mushroom mixture over eggs, and top with cheese. Cover other pastry sheet and crimp edges. Brush edges of top and bottom pastry lightly with water to seal. With a sharp knife, pierce pastry to create steam vents before baking. Place into a 400°F preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
