Original Bratwurst Cooking Directions
Always thaw product prior to cooking. If using a cooking thermometer, sausage is cooked thoroughly at 180°F.
skillet
Heat a pan to a medium temperature. Add 1/2 cup of water and place links in pan. Cover, heat for 10 minutes, turning links once. Remove cover and continue cooking for 10 minutes.
gas or charcoal grill
Preheat gas grill to medium-low heat. (If charcoal, allow it to burn until white ash has formed on the coals.) Place links on grill 7-9 inches above heat source. Use tongs to turn links often, every 4-6 minutes. Cook until golden brown about 25-30 minutes. (Closing the grill lid while cooking helps minimize flare-ups.)
indoor broiling
Place links on broiler rack at least 7-9 inches below heat. Broil about 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown, about 16-20 minutes total.
microwave reheating
Heat 1 link approximately 1 minute on high or until warmed to your satisfaction (adjust time according to your microwave).
pan reheating
Medium temperature in a covered pan for 8-10 minutes.
